September 21 -23 2007

The Irish National Diplomacy Championship, 2007 is being at at University College Cork on the weekend of 21 -23 September 2007. The Championship will be held in the modern O’Rahilly Building on the main college campus in the western suburbs of ‘the real capital’ of Ireland. Players intending to attend are strongly advised to book ahead so we can properly schedule competition games.

smallquad.jpgThe University website provides access to visitor information and maps. There are several excellent guesthouses across the road from the campus, of which Killarney, Garnish and Redclyffe are popular. Both the new Jurys Hotel and Hayfield Manor are adjacent to the campus. Isaacs, across town, is also popular – and ‘across town’ is only a 20 minute walk away in this compact city.

Most European cities link to Cork Airport, either directly or via London. There is a good rail service from Dublin, and a bus link from Shannon Airport which is about 2 hours away. With advance notice, we can probably organise pickups from Shannon and from Cork Airport, as well as from the railway station.

Hosted by the UCC Historical Society, we also hope to negotiate access to the Wargamers games lockers for sidebar games. Friday and Saturday night there are some excellent resteraunts, and many fine pubs including the Franciscan Well, famous for it’s micro-brewery.

For those who want to make a longer trip, Cork provides an excellent gateway to explore the south-west. By late September, most of the tourists will have left, the popular tourist locations are less crowded and many arts and crafts shops are having end of season sales.
